SKINSHOW

Presented at a/void/fest 2023

and Fertile Ground Festival 2024

Who are you when nobody’s watching?

Backstage at a neon-lit cabaret, two inhuman performers prepare for their entrances: Frankenstein’s Monster and The Creature from The Black Lagoon cycle through their dressing room as a normal night of work slides into a grasp for connection, a storm of vicious self-scrutiny, and euphoric self-expression.

In an original performance that weaves together expressive movement, soliloquy, and B-Movie camp, performers and writers R.L. Routh and Claire Elizabeth Aldridge dissect queer identity, sapphic yearning, and dysphoria through the lens of monsterdom. Underscored with a soundscape by designer Kora Link and projections by Taz Coffey, SKINSHOW is an unforgettable new perspective on the horrors of being human.

Embrace your inner monster, face the version of you that lives only in the dark corners of the mirror, and shed the rest.

The poster for SKINSHOW. It reads "SKINSHOW. Rachel Lindsey Routh. Claire Elizabeth Aldridge." The two actors are shown in in neon lighting.
